Public Meeting – Westport
(Brockville) – Westport Mayor Bill Thake and Leeds & Grenville MPP Bob Runciman today announced they will co-host a public meeting in April to address concerns in the Rideau area community dealing with fishing regulations, concerns about poaching and the activities of fishermen from outside the region fishing in the area at night.
Although no date has been set for the gathering, Thake and Runciman indicated that they hope to have representatives from MNR, the OPP, Westport and Area Outdoors Association and the Ontario Chinese Anglers Association in attendance.
“We want to provide an opportunity for the community and others to better understand each other and to address widespread concerns that our environment is not being appropriately protected” said Thake.
“I’m hopeful that the outcome of the meeting will clear the air with respect to the poaching issue and remove any misunderstandings that may revolve around the activities of visiting fishermen” added the Leeds & Grenville MPP.
The Mayor and MPP indicated that they will release details of the meeting by the end of March.
