Independent Investigation of Obstruction of Justice Allegations at OLG needed -- Runciman
(Toronto) - Allegations of obstruction of justice at Ontario’s scandal-plagued Ontario Lottery and Gaming corporation require an independent investigation according to PC Government Agencies critic and former Solicitor General, Bob Runciman.
Runciman raised the issue in the legislature today (statement attached) pointing out that the allegations could involve a senior command officer of the OPP, who was seconded to OLG, and the inappropriateness of the OPP conducting such an investigation.
“It appears the McGuinty government is using the OPP for political purposes and placing this outstanding police service in an untenable position,” charged the MPP. “Police investigating themselves, especially dealing with serious allegations, is not appropriate.”
Runciman suggested the Opposition might utilize procedural tools to delay legislative business if the government refused to call in an independent investigator.
