CALEDONIA BILLS TO FEDS A “SICK JOKE” - RUNCIMAN

(Toronto) The McGuinty government’s attempt to get the federal government to pay for their mismanagement of an illegal occupation in Caledonia is a “sick joke”, according to P.C. House Leader Bob Runciman (MPP Leeds-Grenville).

Runciman, in a statement in the Legislature today, pointed out that McGuinty, several months ago, had described the Caledonia occupation as an “accounting disagreement”, not a land claims dispute.

“Now, with costs rising and no end to the occupation in sight, McGuinty wants to fob off responsibility for his government’s failure to respect the rule of law”, charged the former Solicitor General.

“The administration of justice is a provincial responsibility and the McGuinty Liberals are now discovering that the application of different laws for different people, is an expensive proposition”, Runciman pointed out.

Runciman concluded his statement citing Caledonia as an on-going example of the Liberal government’s failure to uphold the rule of law, generating increased lack of respect for the application of laws and damaging the reputation of the Ontario Provincial Police.
