LIBERALS PAY HYDRO & WATER COSTS FOR CALEDONIA OCCUPIERS
Toronto - Liberal Aboriginal Affairs Minister David Ramsay today confirmed that the McGuinty Liberal government is picking up the cost of supplying power and water to a site in Caledonia illegally occupied for over 7 months by aboriginal protesters.
Ramsay was responding to a question in the Legislature from P.C. House Leader Bob Runciman (MPP Leeds-Grenville) who described the admission as another sign of the McGuinty government’s “weakness and lack of fortitude” in its dealings with the occupiers.
“A few weeks ago, Mr. McGuinty said it was unacceptable for the occupiers to remain on the site over the winter, and now we find out he’s using tax dollars to pay their heating bills” Runciman charged.
“McGuinty’s willingness to negotiate with people while they continue an illegal occupation and his lack of fortitude when it comes to laying down conditions to continue negotiations and sticking to them, doesn’t auger well for a resolution of this situation without further major concessions from the government” Runciman argued. “McGuinty has proven time and time again, that when pressured by this group, he will cave.”
