LACK OF LEADERSHIP COSTS ONTARIO TAXPAYERS
McGuinty Liberals fail to disclose what their weak leadership in Caledonia will cost
(Queen’s Park) - The McGuinty Liberals must disclose what the Caledonia buy-off is going to cost the taxpayers of Ontario, Progressive Conservative critic Bob Runciman said today.
“The McGuinty Liberals are setting a disturbing and costly precedent,” said Runciman. “The fact that after over 100 days of the occupation the McGuinty Liberals have decided to finally act by buying the disputed land without letting Ontario taxpayers know how much they are on the hook for is not acceptable.”
Runciman asked the McGuinty Liberals for answers today following the announcement Friday that they would buy the disputed land from Henco Industries with taxpayers’ dollars for an unspecified amount. It has been reported that none of the parties involved in the standoff have said they are satisfied with this attempt at a solution.
“To date, the McGuinty Liberals have committed a reported $50 million taxpayer dollars for a property purchase and dropped conditions for a return to the bargaining table. They have also recognized a no-go-zone for police, turned a blind eye to the destruction of a hydro transformer, disrupting local citizens, and on and on,” said Runciman. “Mr. McGuinty’s approach, to bargain from a point of weakness and reward continued resistance is setting the table for many more Caledonia type confrontations.”
