CALEDONIA- POLITICAL CHAOS, CONFUSION, COWARDICE - RUNCIMAN

(QUEEN’S PARK) – Ontario PC House leader, Bob Runciman, charged the McGuinty Liberal Government with displaying “incredible weakness” by resuming negotiations with the native protestors occupying land in Caledonia.

During Question period Runciman asked for an explanation of the government’s decision to re-enter negotiations when the occupiers are refusing to hand over to police, individuals facing a range of charges including attempted murder of an OPP constable.

“On Monday, in a show of bravado, Mr. McGuinty laid down two clear and explicit conditions for resuming negotiations and one day later, essentially dropped them,” charged Runciman.

“It’s an incredible display of weakness and can only make it more difficult to achieve a fair resolution to the stand-off,” he asserted.

Runciman called on the McGuinty government to walk away from the negotiating table until those charged with violent lawbreaking are turned over to police.

“From the beginning, the Caledonia lawlessness has been a textbook demonstration of political chaos, confusion, and cowardice,” declared the veteran MPP and former Solicitor General.
