PRESCOTT WELCOMES NEW CLINIC - RUNCIMAN

(Brockville)- Leeds-Grenville MPP, Bob Runciman, announced today that the Canterbury Mark Perri Clinic has decided to fill the void left by the Brockville General Hospital’s recent closure of its outpatient lab in the Town Of Prescott. After weeks of negotiations, the new clinic is set to welcome patients from the Prescott and surrounding area in July of this year.

“This is great news for the people previously served by the Brockville General’s clinic,” said Runciman. “I was very concerned that seniors, and those without the means, were going to be forced to travel great distances, or forego necessary services with the lab closure, and I am thrilled that we have been able to secure a new provider to continue lab services for the community.”

“This was a truly collaborative effort, between the service provider, town officials, concerned private donors and my office,” said Runciman.

Prescott’s Mayor, Robert Lawn, welcomed the collaborative efforts of all involved stating that “this good news demonstrates the merit of co-operation, so essential to the sustainability of small town rural Ontario.”

Mike McCrimmon, Clinical Director of the The Canterbury Mark Perri Clinic, states that "When approached by Bob Runciman regarding the immediate need, our Board of Directors thought that a clinic in Prescott would be a natural step for us. The Canterbury Clinic was originally set up to fill service gaps within the health care spectrum. We look forward to working with all concerned to serve the people of Prescott and surrounding areas.”

Based in Toronto, The Canterbury Mark Perri Clinic is a not-for-profit private clinic that will provide laboratory services. The official opening of the new Prescott Lab will take place in early July, with services initiated July 4, 2006.

“I want to extend a special thanks to Gamma-Dynacare for their staff contribution and to thank Mark Seymour of Kriska and Wilf Peters for once again stepping up to the plate and helping the community,” concluded Runciman.
