MCGUINTY HAS RURAL ONTARIO IN THE CROSSHAIRS

(QUEEN’S PARK) – In a statement in the Ontario Legislature today, Leeds Grenville MPP, Bob Runciman, called for an end to the McGuinty government’s encroachment upon cultural institutions such as Farmer’s Markets, which rural Ontarians have enjoyed for generations.

In his statement, Runciman noted that the Ministry of Health has secretly called upon regional Health Units to advise the Ministry on new guidelines to govern farmer’s markets in Ontario without public consultation or the advice of key stakeholders.

“Rural Ontarians have once again found themselves in the crosshairs of the McGuinty Government. One is left to ask, how many other provincial matters are being discussed behind closed doors without input from those most affected?”
