McGuinty Missing as Manufacturing Struggles - Runciman

(Brockville) – Today’s announcement by Dyno Nobel, formerly Nitrochem, of personnel reductions is yet another blow to Leeds Grenville’s struggling manufacturing sector said Bob Runciman, MPP. A former employee of the Maitland facility, Runciman was saddened by today’s announcement.

“Dyno Nobel in Maitland has been a key employer, and community contributor, for almost a half century,” said Runciman. “Today’s announcement is yet another indicator of further erosion of the manufacturing sector in rural Ontario.”

“The McGuinty Budget completely ignored the manufacturing sector, offering nothing for an industry under siege and vital to rural communities such as Maitland,’ said Runciman. “As losses in the manufacturing sector continue to mount, the issue remains well below the radar of the Toronto-centric McGuinty government.,” charged Runciman.

Runciman noted that Leeds Grenville has been particularly hard hit by losses in the manufacturing sector. “This is a difficult time for our region,” noted Runciman. “The manufacturing sector is under siege, and the effect of these losses in communities such as Maitland is devastating,” he added.
