BUREAUCRACY SWELLS UNDER MCGUINTY
Tax dollars going to more staff and higher salaries, not achieving results, says Runciman
(Queen’s Park) – Progressive Conservative House Leader Bob Runciman today called on the McGuinty Liberals to explain why under their watch government salaries are skyrocketing and why the number of government employees has grown by thousands.
“The people of Ontario are paying more and all they get from the McGuinty Liberals is less,” said Runciman. “All they get from Dalton McGuinty is a fat and bloated government with no results to show for it.”
According to Estimates for 2005-06, the McGuinty Liberals are spending $340 million more for government salaries. There are also 7,200 more Ontario government employees in the government phone book this year than there were when the McGuinty Liberals came to office.
In the past year, the number of the government staff making over $100,000 per year has also grown by 17 percent. The number of people overall on the provincial payroll has grown by 20 percent over the past year.
“Many Ontarians are shaking their heads in wonderment and asking themselves what great things their government must have done in order to justify boosting the $100,000 salary club by 20 percent in a single year,” said Runciman. “This is unchecked, irresponsible spending by the McGuinty Liberals.”
Runciman added: “Dalton McGuinty imposed a massive new tax and we now see much of it is going to massive new bureaucracy. Ontarians want results not more waste and bureaucracy.”
