LIBERALS RESPONSIBLE FOR HOSPITAL CUTS - RUNCIMAN

(BROCKVILLE) – Today’s announcement of reduced services and job losses at the Brockville General Hospital is a significant blow to the region and is a disturbing indicator of the McGuinty Liberal government’s pay more, get less approach to the province’s health care system.

“In 2003, after getting elected on a promise not to raise taxes, Mr. McGuinty brought in the largest tax increase in Ontario history under the guise of improved health care,” said Runciman. “What we’ve received in return for that deception is the removal of services like physiotherapy, and eye and chiropractic care,” charged the Tory House Leader. “And now, the Brockville hospital is forced to strip services and close beds, and Prescott loses its outpatient lab.”

“This is not only the loss of important health care services for our region, it’s also the loss of almost 30 good paying jobs, and that has a long-term economic impact,” Runciman said.

Runciman pointed out that the former PC government invested millions of dollars for expansion and renovation of the hospital just 3 years ago, and now beds and services are being cut.

“It’s a sad day, and the responsibility for these negative moves can be laid squarely at the feet of the McGuinty government,” he concluded.
