LIBERALS REWARD TOP HATCHET MAN WITH $800K

Runciman calls on McGuinty Liberals to explain latest expensive contract to Liberal

(Queen's Park) - Dalton McGuinty must explain why his government has rewarded one of his top political hatchet man from the last election with $820,000 since coming to power, Progressive Conservative House Leader Bob Runciman said today.

“The smell of rewarding friends is becoming a stench,” Runciman said. “Marcel Weider smeared the previous government in the last election campaign and now the McGuinty Liberals are helping him join the millionaire’s club. Dalton McGuinty owes Ontario taxpayers an explanation.”

According to a Toronto Sun article today, Wieder’s company Arrow Communications has been paid $820,000 in government contracts since October 2003. Wieder oversaw what the McGuinty Liberals claimed was an independent third-party group during the last election that ran attack ads against the PC Party. The Sun article today also notes one of Wieder’s other companies, Policomm, was paid $33,902 for work during that same campaign.

“This is becoming a pattern of behaviour with the McGuinty Liberals,” said Runciman. “They still haven’t explained how Dalton McGuinty’s election ad agency received $6.3 million in government contracts and now we find out about other friends getting big contracts. Dalton McGuinty now owes Ontarians an explanation for over $7 million in contracts.”
