McGUINTY LIBERALS IGNORE CASCO THREAT - RUNCIMAN

(Toronto) _ Leeds-Grenville MPP Bob Runciman today raised the issue of possible closure of CASCO’s Ontario facilities during the legislature’s Question Period.

Runciman asked the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Joe Cordiano if he had acted on the MPP’s written September request that he intervene with the federal agency considering implementation of tariffs on U.S. corn, a move that would dramatically impact on the operating costs of CASCO’s three Ontario plants.

“Shamefully, Cordiano had no response,” charged Runciman. “He has done absolutely nothing and his only response is to express vague concern about trade disputes with the U.S.”

The MPP indicated that he will continue to press the Liberal government to get engaged and insure all implications that might flow from the imposition of tariffs are considered by the trade panel.
