ATTORNEY GENERAL HAS SELECTIVE INTEREST IN HOMOLKA - RUNCIMAN

(Toronto) _ Ontario P.C. Critic Bob Runciman today questioned the decision of Ontario’s Attorney General Michael Bryant to not have Ontario prosecutors participate in Karla Homolka’s appeal of post-sentence conditions placed on her.

Runciman also accused the Attorney General of neglecting the victims of Homolka’s crimes by failing to cover their expenses and their lawyer’s expenses, in order to attend today’s hearing in Montreal.

“Mr. Bryant’s interest in this issue seems to have evaporated at the same time the TV cameras disappeared,” charged the P.C. House Leader. “It’s passing strange that when Homolka was front page news, Mr. Bryant was all over the place playing tough guy, now he’s no where to be found.”

“It’s also truly shameful that the French and Mahaffy families, with $40 million in the Victim Justice Fund, have not received assistance from the government to attend the appeal hearing,” asserted the veteran MPP. “That is inexcusable!”

“The failures of the Attorney General and his colleagues raise serious questions about the sincerity of their earlier comments regarding Homolka and their commitment to victims of crime,” concluded Runciman.
