SHERWOOD PARK MANOR MEDIA ADVISORY
Kingston – At the encouragement of Leeds-Grenville MPP Bob Runciman, Sherwood Park Manor Nursing Home submitted a brief to the Ontario Government’s Pre-Budget Consultation in Kingston today.
Directors Chris Butler and Dr. John Southin presented detailed information on the financial situation at the nursing home and how it affects patient care and staffing.
Runciman, who sat on the panel representing the Official Opposition, described the submission as “alarming”.
“The McGuinty government’s announcement of new funding for long-term care was actually smaller than the increase Sherwood Park Manor normally received from our government,” said Runciman. “To get this money the board had to sign an agreement guaranteeing the hiring of new staff and a promise that every resident would receive two baths a week.”
In their submission, the directors stated that they can not guarantee residents two baths a week and explained why.
Butler said the nursing home provides excellent care for residents and directors are really concerned that they will be singled out for not meeting provincial standards, and have this information posted on a public website.
Runciman says Butler made a compelling presentation to the all-party panel.
“I hope everyone reads this submission so that they will understand the pressures being faced by operators of long-term care facilities,” said Runciman.
