MCGUINTY BREACHED SECRECY OATH AND SHOULD RESIGN - RUNCIMAN

TORONTO – Ontario Conservative House Leader, Bob Runciman (MPP Leeds-Grenville) today called on Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty to “step aside” for breaching the oath of secrecy he took when sworn in as Premier.

Runciman charged that McGuinty’s public admission that he gave Prime Minister Paul Martin advance notice of measures contained in the Ontario Budget constituted a clear violation of the Oath of Allegiance for members of Cabinet.

“McGuinty not only violated parliamentary conventions surrounding budget secrecy, he broke his own sworn oath to respect Cabinet secrecy,” fumed Runciman. “He’s proven that not only is his signature worthless, but also his sworn oath. He should resign!”

“What does an oath stand for if breaking it means you can simply shrug your shoulders and walk away from it,” continued the veteran MPP and former Solicitor General.
