LIBERAL PRIORITY: LANGUAGE COP
OVER REAL COPS
TORONTO – Ontario Liberals
plan to appoint a “language cop”
to police the provisions of French language
services while ignoring a campaign promise to
hire 1,000 new front-line police officers, according
to Conservative House Leader, Bob Runciman (MPP
Leeds-Grenville).
In the Legislature yesterday Liberal Culture
Minister Madeleine Meilleur announced her plan
to appoint a language ombudsman to “ensure
that linguistic rights are respected.”
“This is a reflection of social engineering
Liberals’ priorities,” asserted
Runciman. “Instead of hiring front-line
police officers and providing small municipalities
with the resources they need to support their
police services, they opt to create a force
similar to the language police that have created
havoc with ordinary citizens and businesses
in Quebec.”
The Conservative House Leader urged the McGuinty
Liberals not to move ahead with this “ill-conceived”
plan.
