$75,000
GRANT WILL HELP PURCHASE NEW AMBULANCE
BROCKVILLE _ The local St. John
Ambulance Brigade will receive $75,000 from the
Trillium Foundation to pay for a new ambulance
to be delivered next fall.
John Henderson, a review officer
from the foundation, and Leeds-Grenville MPP Bob
Runciman, attended a special celebration at St.
John House to make the announcement.
The new vehicle will increase the
brigade's abilities to deliver services in Leeds,
Grenville and parts of Lanark Counties.
Dr. Donald Smylie, chairman of the
brigade, said the vehicle is badly needed.
"This is a great day for St.
John. We've been looking forward to this for some
time. We hope to receive it in September or October,"
he said.
The new vehicle that will be outfitted
with new equipment such as a defibrillator and
lightweight stretcher replaces the current ambulance
that is 20 years old.
Runciman lauded the organization
for its selfless efforts.
"The role you play in taking
some of the load off our health-care system is
one of those hidden benefits your provide,"
he said.
He said the success of the provincial
charity casinos has allowed the province to pump
$100 million annually into Trillium Foundation
funding, ten times the amount that used to be
grant for such purposes.
