FUNDING INCREASED FOR HOME SUPPORT SERVICE
AGENCIES
BROCKVILLE _ Increased annual funding of $162,010
will allow local home care support agencies
to improve and expand services in Leeds-Grenville,
MPP Bob Runciman announced today.
Runciman visited the office of the Victorian
Order of Nurses at 35 Central Avenue to discuss
the $98,572 funding increase the agency will
receive starting in the 2002-2003 budget year.
The improvement to the base funding will allow
the agency to prepare its service plan for the
coming years.
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care increased
base funding to community support services across
Ontario by $9.4 million and allocated another
$11 million in one-time funding that allowed
agencies to improve their services.
“This funding is part of the Ministry’s
overall strategy to improve health care in the
province,” said Runciman. “Health
care is more than just doctors and hospitals
_ it’s a wide range of services that help
provide a better quality of life for our citizens.
Programs to offer care in the home are just
as important as the service available in our
hospitals,”
The VON will expand and enhance a number of
its services with $60,000 of the funding and
will also partner with the Providence Continuing
Care Centre, St. Vincent de Paul Hsopital site,
to provide transportation to clients attending
its Adult Day Care Program.
The other $38,572 will allow the VON to introduce
two new programs that will assist vulnerable
citizens to remain in their homes, thus delaying
admission to hospitals and long-term care facilities.
The VON also received a base funding increase
of $5,700 in January for an overall increase
of $104,272 in 2003.
Runciman also announced the Providence Continuing
Care Centre will have its budget increased by
$43,121 in the 2002-2003 fiscal year. The money
will be used in its Partners in Caring Adult
Day Service, a community service designed to
meet the needs of physically disabled and/or
cognitively impaired clients.
The service is now available at four sites
and will be expanded to another location.
A one-time grant of $3,500 will allow the Providence
Continuing Care Centre to purchase a new computer
for its Palliative Care Education Initiative.
Other Leeds-Grenville agencies receiving increases
to their annual base funding are the Gananoque
and Area Services to Assist Independent Living
($10,604), Kemptville and District Home Support
($5,713), and North Grenville Community Hospice
($4,000). The Kemptville and District Home Support
Inc. will also receive $3,500 to purchase a
new computer.
