RUNCIMAN SUPPORTS NEW HOME FOR SHRINERS HOSPITAL

OTTAWA _ Bob Runciman, MPP for Leeds-Grenville, joins other Eastern Ontario MPPs and officials of the Ottawa area in trying to convince the Shriners Hospital Relocation Committee that Eastern Ontario is the ideal site for a new facility.

Runciman and Charles MacDonald of his Toronto staff will be meeting with the selection committee at a luncheon today at Ottawa Airport. MacDonald, a Prescott native, spent several months at the Shriners Hospital in Boston recovering from burns suffered in a car accident and is well aware of the outstanding care provided at these facilities.

The Shriners want to construct a new facility to replace their hospital in Montreal. The site in Montreal isn’t large enough for the proposed building so the Shriners have been looking for a site in Ontario. Ottawa, Toronto and London are being considered as possible sites.

Runciman believes the Shriners Hospital for Children’s Care is a perfect fit for location adjacent to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. Also attending the luncheon are fellow Eastern Ontario cabinet ministers Norm Sterling, John Baird and Brian Coburn and MPP Garry Guzzo.
