GRANT
HELPS TO ENSURE LONG-TERM FISH STOCK
PORTLAND _ A $40,000 grant from
the Ministry of Natural Resources Protection and
Enhancement fund will help maximize long-term
angling opportunities to ensure sustainable fisheries
in the Rideau Lake area.
Bob Runciman, MPP for Leeds-Grenville,
was at the Centre for Sustainable Watersheds (CSW)
to present the cheque to executive director Bob
Sneyd.
The five major components of the
program are:
• Comprehensive shoreline inventory and
mapping of the Rideau Lake.
• Bass tournament survival tagging study.
• Development of an information management
database for agencies and community groups.
• Leading edge, precise lake-bottom mapping.
• Development of three new fishing brochures
to encourage state-of-the-art conservation techniques.
The Centre for Sustainable Watersheds
is a newly incorporated non-profit organization
with some 30 member organizations in Eastern Ontario
and partners with a growing network of supporters
both within and outside the region. The centre
is located at 14 St. Mary's Street in Portland.
