EVES GOVERNMENT HELPS STUDENTS FIND SUMMER JOBS

BROCKVILLE -- Through the Ontario Summer Jobs Program, the Eves government has invested $53.1 million this year to help young people find summer employment or even create their own jobs.

“Thousands of students and others are now at work because of the program,” says Bob Runciman, Leeds-Grenville MPP. “The Eves government believes real, hands-on experience in the workplace help students make better informed choices about their futures.”

Ontario Summer Jobs involves young people — mainly ages 15 to 24. It runs from April to September and offers a range of services, including $2 per hour wage support for businesses, farms, and community organizations that hire young people.

“Over the last seven years, the number of youth finding work through the Ontario Summer Jobs Program has increased dramatically from about 24,000 to 60,000 last year,” says Runciman.

The program provides some students with up to $3,000 to help them run their own summer businesses with advice from mentors. Summer jobs are also provided in provincial government ministries and agencies.

“The Ontario Summer Jobs program helps youth find jobs in their own local area,” says Runciman. “It also provides advice on resumes and self-marketing.”
