Sign on with Leeds-Grenville MPP BOB RUNCIMAN’S petition calling on the Parliament of Canada to close down the wasteful and ineffective long-gun registry established under C-68 and invest future tax dollars in programs that will have a real impact on getting guns out of the hands of criminals.

PETITION TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS IN PARLIAMENT AS:

We, the undersigned residents of Canada in the Province of Ontario, draw the attention of the House to the following:

THAT Auditor General Sheila Fraser’s findings that the actual costs of the federal gun registry, established under C-68, are now approaching $ 1 billion, versus an original cost estimate of $ 2 million;

THAT the Auditor General also indicated that the government failed to keep Parliament informed of the escalating costs of the registry;

THAT the majority of long gun owners in Canada have not registered;

THAT the government has failed to provide any conclusive or verifiable evidence that the registry is preventing gun crime or keeping guns out of the hands of criminals; and

THAT all indications point to the federal government’s determination to continue operating this ineffectual registry at the cost of untold millions of taxpayer’s dollars;

THEREFORE, your petitioners call upon Parliament to close down the wasteful and ineffective long gun registry and invest future tax dollars in programs that will have a real impact on getting guns out of the hands of criminals.
